We didn't exalt enough dragons? An in-flight raffle is the answer!!!!11!!

i still don't get the point of the in-flight raffle. god, i hope we have a public raffle next time we go for dominance. it's not like we probably couldn't offer some great prizes...

In my experience (admittedly tiny), in-flight raffles are actually a really good idea. It gets some people who wouldn't normally exalt to do so, plus it helps you keep a semi-accurate count of how many dragons your flight has exalted. I exalted more than I would have, last push, because it felt like there was a personal incentive to do so. It should be done in addition to a public raffle though.

i wanted to think i was rich enough to at least make a little difference. and maybe i am, but i don't have enough time to make a difference. we need more rich unemployed layabouts, god damn it.

we're a little more organized now, though. hopefully that will help...

OP

The elephant in the room is money. All the "organization" posts are ignoring the fact ice has only ever won because of people spending 6-7 digits on buying exalt fodder. (Yeah yeah denial "everyone counts" but some count way more than others) Even if you devote 99 slots in your lair for holding/breeding exalt bait it's not going to make a dent.

Sticky topic though. Organization though. Assigned posters though. "I'm hoarding 5 hatchlings!" You can win a pearlcatcher though. Totally makes the difference right?? /s

well, since leveled dragons count for more than hatchlings, if you can level them a fair amount before the week, hoarding some might help. or at least give us a bit of a head start. i can exalt hatchlings all day (barring time constraints and the fact that it gets really boring after a while) but i won't have time to level many dragons.

but yeah, i actually can afford to spend 7 digits buying exalt fodder. i'm know there are a number of others in ice who can too. but they have to be willing to actually do so. i wasn't these past two dominance pushes because they seemed too disorganized and doomed to fail, and i bet some of the big players were the same way. so just the fact that we have a plan might help... we'll see.

also, the game is now such that just one person will have a very hard time having any influence on the rankings, even if they can exalt a lot of dragons. i exalted like 100 one day last week and it didn't even bump us up from 6th to 5th, on a week when no one was even really competing much. so more coordination is required now than we've really had in the past.

and by "last week" i meant "this week". i forgot it was still saturday.

It's true leveled dragons do count for more, but I wish we knew how much. I worry that people might level a handful of dragons and consider it done. Like.. "Okay, I participated and my exalts counted for *extra*" where one could've spent that time buying/exalting way more. Getting a few raffle tickets makes you feel satisfied (as it should), but it can be premature like "I did my part and I'm done now." Snobby as all hell, but..

It's like when you tell someone about your goal (I'm going to lose weight, I'm going to clean my house, my New Years resolution is...) you often feel like you're accomplishing something by announcing it and then don't feel like actually following through. That's some of my beef with the organization efforts because where there weren't big commitments there are now political and social aspects. It veers into sideshow territory. It bogs things down. You end up with a lot of forum posts and no dominance to show for it.

There are a number of people who could drop $$$, besides you and me and the high-profile people, but no one is open about it. It would awkward asking "Is anyone else willing to drop X cash this week cuz I will if you will?" The new sticky has so many posts that its too late to say anything that isn't with the vibe that's been going on there anyways wrt the belief that it's the little things that count for everything. I don't want to spend much money if I can't tell others are doing it too because I'm selfish. And like you say, one person can't hold it up. Least of all me.

I was tired and cranky when I started this thread and it wasn't very fair of me tbh. I don't hate newbies. We don't need ice laundry aired. Still grumpy and pessimistic about everything though. idek

i wish we knew too. like, i'm assuming there's significant difference between level 1 and level 25. but no one is going to level exalt-bait to 25. how big is the difference between level 1 and level 5 or so? is it significant, or is it only a small difference? hard to say, and there's not really a good way to test it.

i kind of agree, though. it's like... in the dominance thread you have all these different "roles" that people can fill, but no one's talking about who will buy the dragons, even though that is by far the most significant source of exalt fodder. i remember looking at the list and going "i can't do any of these things" and feeling like i'm not useful even though i can buy hundreds of dragons to exalt - i know that that's stupid of me, but it really does feel like what i can do isn't valued, and it's a little discouraging.

and yeah... i'm still a little worried, but more optimistic than you are.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. There are too many flights, too many people [casually exalting], and the 15 minute delay between scoreboard updates would make it hard to do any real tests. The lack of transparency is frustrating.

That's kinda how I feel, too. It's like people got so aggressive about "we aren't freeloaders and not reliant totally on rich people honest!!!!!" that they've excluded mass exalters (or even medium exalters) entirely. But.. I might be projecting. I could've barged in if I wasn't chickenshit. That ship has probably sailed.

I'm glad you're optimistic. No sarcasm. We don't need too many soggy icicles like me.
