why is everyone assuming that this is somehow a fuckup on the admins' part

yeah they've screwed up before but lbr, their grand master plan was probably not for common dragons to be expensive and difficult for new and casual players to get. the reason they weren't terribly "common" before was p. much just because less players = less dragons, not because that's obviously how they planned it and now everything is falling to pieces because spirals are selling for 30k.

honestly the best fix would be for people to get over themselves and start exalting commons along with plentifuls

someone should let me know if they spy any butthurt on tumblr/the forums because I may or may not have exalted a bunch of pearlcatchers and a couple of ridgebacks from the AH.

oh were you the one who exalted the lavender tiger/leaf (or something like that) PC monstrosity I had selling for like 160 gems? I bought it while AH combing because I thought it was absurdly cheap for a gened PC only to realise that actually their prices really had crashed that far. I figured someone would buy it to scatterscroll so I was pretty surprised when it got exalted but hey if wasting money on expensive exalts floats your boat then whatever.

nah I've only been hitting stuff at 10k treasure and under so I have a profit margin.

I don't have a whole 100 gems to my name to waste after buying a wildclaw scroll.

The reason I think it's a screwup on the admins' part (or at least not what they intended) is because yeah, sure, commons drop down to 5k - that's not a big deal, maybe they are supposed to end up the exact same price as a plentiful in the end, despite the huge price difference in their breed change scrolls. But the exact same thing is going to happen to every single dragon breed. They will take more time, yes, but it's inevitable, as long as the site continues running and they don't change anything.

And if this was meant to be a breeding game, that's completely contrary to the way other breeding games do it. It's more like Neopets, where collecting items & playing the games is the main draw of the site, not the pets, once you have your pets set up the way you want. And frankly? Unless they get better coders, FR's games will never be a draw.

But that's what most people are going to do. They're going to set up their dragons how they want, and sell off the dead weight while keeping their pretties to show off. That's how it was always going to be and you're naive to think otherwise.
