Is buying things with treasure and selling for gems actually a pretty profitable way of doing things? I'm asking because I'm missing my dominance discount as a source of cash and I see that the AH is pretty empty right now for genes and things.

It can be. I haven't tried selling genes, but apparel and familiars seem to sell for gems decently well, and often for a higher price once you convert it to treasure.

That's how I usually make my money, and I make pretty good money that way. Sometimes it can take a little while to sell something for gems if you want to make sure you get a good ratio, but I usually manage to sell within a couple days. I'm also pretty lazy about it because I honestly don't really need more money than I have now, so if you were less lazy, you could probably do pretty well.

It also depends what "things" you're selling. I mostly sell genes and breed change scrolls, so I can't tell you much about any other items.

yeah I have enough capital that I'd be doing it with genes (what I resold when I had the dominance discount to make a nice bit of change)

I am thinking of buying scrolls --> selling for gems --> buy boons --> sell for treasure

Yup, that's pretty much how it works. Though I vary which gem items (and treasure items, actually) I choose to sell based on the AH prices that day - boons often get you the best ratio, but sometimes scatterscrolls are better, and occasionally one of the genes is actually the best. So I always check the AH before choosing what to buy.

Oh right, boons and scatterscrolls tend to sell faster than genes. So there's that too.

Can I ask you a question, if you ever see this? I got something in the neighbourhood of 1500 gems but it wasn't a nice round number and isn't evenly divisible by 350. So I bought a couple gem items (boons/scatters) to sell for treasure on the AH but I have like 190 gems awkwardly left over. What do you do in that case? I had the bright idea of buying another treasure item to sell for more gems to buy more gem items -- but I'll still have a remainder. Do you eventually crack & sell on the forum when the rate is good or do you buy smaller items?

The nice thing is, I'll still make an okay profit without even selling those 190, but obviously the profit would be better if I did.

I made approx 13-18k profit doing this with one seraph gene, but it took me for-fucking-ever to sell all the gems back for treasure so IMO it wasn't worth the effort. I could've made that much playing shockswitch for 20min (though that's boring as fuck) or runes for like 10 min if it would actually work. Might be worth the effort with bigger ticket items or if you actually use the gems for something I guess.

Yeah I'd buy boons or scatter scrolls with the gems because I don't want to deal with selling them either.

Yeah if I try flipping again I think I will definitely do that.
