It definitely sucks, but to be fair, the problem also went unreported for a while because no one seriously looked into the randomisation pattern until approximately 1 week ago, when people started looking around and going, "Wait a minute. This doesn't seem right." Until then, people who were hoping to get cool ranges probably thought they were having great luck with the RNG (so why would they be too curious), and people who were hoping for warm ranges were probably like, "Damn, I have shitty luck today."

Add in the fact that I have seen red, tomato, and brown turn up (albeit extremely rarely) as scattered results, and the casual observer might just assume most people are scrolling again if they get a warm range and not showing off the results until they get what they want.

It definitely sucks because I'm pretty sure they had no reason to doubt that the scatterscrolls were working right until they had a lot of data dropped on them generated from actual usage that showed something had gone horribly wrong and it wasn't picked up by internal testing. If scatterscrolls were meant to use the same algorithm used by the random progen/unhatched egg generator... it should have worked fine.

Unfortunately, a lot of the possible compensation methods would not deliver scrolls to the people affected. And then you have to consider the people who were perfectly happy with their results and wanted cool ranged dragons, so... they wouldn't need to be compensated. And having people contact the admins to be refunded would require someone just to check the stored data to see if that person actually ever had a scatterscroll, otherwise you'd have people claiming they had scatterscrolls who didn't and...

Basically the whole situation sucks hardcore. For everyone.
