whoops this anon has feels about colours

I really do not grasp this attitude, at all. My headcanon is that dragons think pink is a masculine colour and also heavily associated with things like magic and astronomy and knowledge and such because of the Arcanist. Thus, they don't see anything odd about a male pink dragon. HE IS PERFECTLY MANLY, TO THOSE DRAGONS WHO CARE ABOUT GENDER NORMS.

And even without making dragon headcanons, it's still fucking stupid. It's a colour; it's not got genitals or anything, so why's the fuss about male hatchlings being pink.

(I about died from an aneurysm when I saw two perfectly lovely hatchlings -one shades of blue, the other shades of pink- and the person who hatched them was complaining because the girl was blue and the boy was pink...)

that's a cute headcanon. idk though, i made a coral/thistle progenitor on purpose so i guess i'm not the most unbiased source

i just find it so weird that on one hand we have DON'T CALL YOURSELVES INDIANS IT'S INSENSITIVE users, and on the other we have WEH MY BOY DRAGON IS PINK users

I chose swamp for one of my custom progen's colours. One of my favourite dragons is thistle/banana. Another favourite is a double magenta boy, and I just spent 9k on a rose/lavender boy. I know nothing of good taste being unbiased about unpopular colours and also pink. Fun fact: I'm also male, so take that anyone who thinks only girls would want pink dragons.

The whiplash is amazing, especially when you consider we have the people who stuck around after the Thrage Rage who are supporters of trans* people and gender non-conformity... and then we have the people who are all BOY DRAGONS CAN'T BE PINK. Just let that settle into your brain for a bit there.

My other headcanon is that anyone who thinks boy dragons can't be pink is clearly still in elementary school and thus shouldn't have an account anyways.

pink used to be considered a masculine color in certain circles irl anyway. so it's not like this is an unprecedented thing.

but I'm with you, anon. I have a perfect rose tiger/rose eye spot fae boy in my lair. (and he has a perfect pink tiger/platinum stripes girlfriend and they are going to make beautiful pink babies with arcane eyes. so there.)

Not just in certain circles, pink was a dilution of red, and red was the color of blood therefore pink was masculine. It was blue that was the original feminine color, blue being soft. Things changed like half a century ago.

Interesting! I associate knowledge and scholarly pursuit/achievement as feminine via the lighter neutrals/yellows, which are representing the Lightweaver. It's fun to see the headcanon of people inspired by the Eleven.

But yeah, even regardless of headcanon, this whole strict gender/color correlation (MEN CAN'T BE PINK!!!) is so silly and frankly arbitrary. I work in a color-related profession and many pinks are regarded as masculine because they're warmer colors, which is just proof that there are competing assumptions about gender and color, and that anyone throwing a fit over a single exclusivity is dumb. If they don't like pink, that's one thing. If they don't like pink on just the males, that's silly.

sa here

Also ENGLIGHTENMENT is associated with yellows, in honor of the Lightweaver. Obviously an important association!
